Wuhan is quite advanced in science, technology and education. It has 35 universities for higher education, 736 scientific research and designing institutes, and 10 state-level leading laboratories, over 450,000 professionals work in various fields and 150,000 university and college students.

The well qualified professionals turn Wuhan Donghu region into the second largest intelligent pool (only smaller than the Beijing Zhongguan village) in China in the fields of communications, biological engineering, laser, microelectronic technology, and new-type materials.

The basic education in Wuhan is also well developed. At present, there are 1,764 primary schools in Wuhan that enroll altogether 797,400 pupils, and 560 middle schools that enroll 421,500 students. Many students from Wuhan middle Schools have participated in the international Olympic academic subject competitions, and have brought home many gold medals, which has taking a leading positions in cities in China.
